Program Description
Students get an up-close look at textiles from around the world. They identify an array of surface design techniques used by local textile artists around the world, and the social, political and cultural implications of surface designs. Students select ethnic designs as an inspiration to create their own surface design on fabric. Students are instructed on the use of textile paints/dyes and the application of multicultural surface design techniques. This workshop can be tailored to the needs of teachers and is conducted as a 90-minute single performance or a residency of 45 minutes per class for a minimum of 3 classes per day.
