Program Description

With the “Freed At Last” Artistic Cultural Expressions of the Juneteenth Celebration and the Freetown Liberated Africans Emancipation Story, Cultural Arts Educator and Visual Artist Madona Cole-Lacy, will take students on an exploratory journey of the emancipation of Africans enslaved by Great Britain and America.

Through visuals which include video clips, the workshop will focus on how the Creoles of Freetown, Sierra Leone, celebrate their freedom through the arts, fashion and culture with an examination of the history and observation of Juneteenth holiday in the United States.

In Part Two of this workshop, students will create visuals on fabric to reflect their individual understanding of the social and political ramifications of the liberation from slavery, then and now. Fees include instruction and materials. School Smart Boards necessary for onsite or virtual presentations.
