Join us at the Museum to learn from the best teacher of all: nature! Our outdoor programs utilize Leeds Pond Preserve (where the museum is located) and Manhasset Bay across the road to provide students an immersive and hands-on look at ecosystems in action. -Beach Ecology (all ages): Make Manhasset Bay your classroom! Discover the challenges faced by organisms that occupy the intertidal zone: a unique and difficult ecosystem to thrive in. Explore the differences between univalve and bivalve organisms search for crabs, visit our local osprey nest, and much more. Discussions can be tailored to suit all ages.
-Woodland Ecology (all ages): Explore our beautiful 36-acre preserve as we learn about forest strata levels, differences between producers, consumers and decomposers, invasive vs. native species, edible plants, seed dispersal, and much more. Discussions can be tailored to suit all ages.
-Maple Sugaring (all ages): Learn the complete, arduous process of making maple syrup in this fan-favorite workshop. We'll explore the tools and techniques required, tap our local maple trees for sap, and, of course, have a maple syrup tasting! Note: only available mid-February through mid-March.
