Program Description
Color-changing creatures. Extreme environments. Far-out foods. Author Alicia Klepeis loves to research and write about fun and out-of-the-ordinary topics that bring the world to young readers. During her lively and colorful presentations, Alicia will share some amazing-but-true stories from her books. Kids love to hear about how some animals seem to come back from the dead, what it's like to be a scientist in Antarctica, or which flavors of ice cream people prefer in other countries. Using captivating photos and actual props, she will draw on the content of her various titles and discuss the research and writing process from the idea phase all the way to the finished book.

Alicia’s presentations can be done in a small classroom setting or in an auditorium setting with a larger group. She will cover the following topics (among others): finding the cool gems of information that make a book more exciting to readers, fact checking, the importance of revision, and constructing a bibliography.

Schools can choose to have their presentations focus on different themes including Amazing Animals, Making Nonfiction Fun, and Let’s Go There! Are your students studying particular countries, habitats, or animals? Alicia is more than happy to create a presentation tailored to the needs of your school.

Before becoming a writer, Alicia was a middle school teacher for years. She has written over 200 books, the majority of which are nonfiction. Dozens of these titles focus on animals with another 60+ on countries/cities/continents around the globe. She has also written biographies of figures from Jane Goodall and Walt Disney to Ben Franklin and Taylor Swift. Her science titles cover topics from volcanoes to super-fast vehicles to humanoid robots.
