Program Description
This is an online version of our in-school assembly program. Our Black History program is a multimedia survey of the American Civil Rights Movement from 1954 through 1968. Using still photos, video clips, age-appropriate language and live music, we relate the story through the voice of a grandmother reflecting on events that led to the election of an African-American President. The program celebrates the contributions of brave individuals who risked their lives to overcome a system of racial injustice, including Rosa Parks, Ruby Bridges and Martin Luther King. The audience is invited to sing along with Freedom Songs, including "We Shall Overcome." Other musical selections include "A Change Is Gonna Come," "A Place In The Sun" "If I Had A Hammer" and "Ain't Gonna Let Nobody Turn Me Around" ."
