In the dark of December, we gather... With ancient instruments and objects from world cultures – from Aztec wind whistle, crystal singing bowls and world flutes, to giant drums, Australian didjeridoos, Chinese gong and Scottish bagpipes - we honor the shortening of the days, and celebrate the return of the Sun! The Winter Solstice is the time when the sun returns from stillness and darkness, and dozens of exotic world instruments trace the path from mysterious darkness to the celebration of The Return of the Light!
In addition to seeing and hearing the instruments, students learn how to make some musical sounds and instruments for themselves, and together we sing a traditional Native American chant to the sun. an optional fun ending includes “Jingle Bells” on double Irish whistle accompanied by sleigh bells!
