Program Description
SMLI provides many hands-on, interactive science programs for grades pre-K through 6th. For a full list, please head to www.smli.org/schoolprograms . Questions? Email Caitlin at corellana@smli.org.

Our physical science programs offer students an opportunity to experience the principles and phenomena of physics & chemistry first-hand! Below are some of our most popular programs. For a full list, please head to www.smli.org/physicalscience

-Aerodynamics (3rd-6th): Discover the properties of air as we experiment with air pressure, Bernoulli's principle, and lift/drag. Apply what you learn to make the perfect paper airplane, then make it do all sorts of tricks!

-Buoyancy (K-3rd): Why do things float? Find out as you experiment with principles of sinking and floating. Test what you've learned by constructing a boat that can carry cargo!

-Forces and Motion (2nd-6th): Discover how Newton's laws govern how things move. Explore inertia, gravity, and potential/kinetic energy through many hands-on experiments.

-Good Vibrations (K-6th): Explore the world of sound! Learn about the variety of ways sound can be produced, how it moves through gases, liquids & solids, and make your own instrument to take home.

-Kitchen Chemistry (1st - 6th): See how ordinary kitchen supplies can perform exciting chemical reactions. Discover the basics of chemistry, the differences between acids and bases, and end the class by creating an explosion!

-Slime, Goo & Ooze (K-6th): Examine the properties of the states of matter using everyone's favorite concoction: slime! We'll cover solutions, plastics, and more; students take home two slimes.

-Liquid Nitrogen (all ages): Experience our "coolest" field trip! Learn how temperature affects solids, liquids, and gases and what happens when things get really cold. Learn the science behind liquid nitrogen as we instantly freeze objects and perform many other experiments. Note: added material fee.
