During this interactive Character Education/Disabilities Awareness workshop, participants gain understanding and acceptance of the challenges faced by "differently-abled" individuals, by creating a piece of ceramic art from the perspective of a person who is blind, or visually impaired. Without relying on their ability to see, students develop an appreciation of how their other senses add to the creative experience. Students will be introduced to Orientation and Mobility, Braille, Guiding, and Adaptive Technology. Awareness, empathy and the message that a challenge, physical or otherwise, doesn't equal DIS-ability, define us, or detract from our ability to create, will be the emphases. Each student receives an embossed copy of the Braille alphabet, a participation token and his/her artwork.
