Mission Be offers a half day Mindfulness Peer Leadership Training to help students cultivate their own personal practice and teach practices to their peers.
The mindfulness practices are designed to improve student learning and school climate. Typical practices include breathing, movement, guided visualizations, and affirmations, SEL activities, mindful listening activities and games.
Students will be given opportunities to work in small groups to practice teaching mindful breathing practices and guided visualization to one another. They will also engage in mindful listening and sharing activities, yoga, mindfulness and the day will end with fun games and activities.
Upon completing the program, the students will receive a certificate and are encouraged to share the mindful practices they learned with their teammates, club members, classmates, siblings/relatives, and others. They are also encouraged to embody mindful listening and practice mindfulness to model positive behavior, kindness, and compassion towards others.
Expected immediate outcomes for the program include: Reduced Stress: Improved ability to manage stress. Increased Focus: Improved ability to pay attention, focus and concentrate. Increased Emotional Intelligence: Reduced impulsiveness. Increased Resilience: Increased capacity to overcome challenges. Improved Physical Well-being: Increased engagement in physical activity.
