We never outgrow the need for good character. Young people need solid standards and a renewed focus on how the quality of good character helps throughout life. Hip-hop dance star Reggie Williams presents a total-interactive workshop where Reggie not only demonstrates and leads students in the latest hip-hop style dances but more importantly, strategically incorporates tools and strategies which teach, enforce, advocate and model Five Pillars of Character. Simply remember that good character is TERRIFIC! (that's "T.R.R.F.C." - Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness and Caring). The Pillars of Character are covered as follows:
1.TRUSTWORTHY – BE HONEST, DON’T LIE, CHEAT OR STEAL. TRY TO DO WHAT’S RIGHT, EVEN WHEN IT FEELS DIFFICULT • Be sincere. Say what you mean and mean what you say. • If you find something that doesn't belong to you, return it.
2. RESPECT – TREAT PEOPLE THE WAY YOU WOULD WANT TO BE TREATED. BE SENSITIVE TO OTHER PEOPLE’S FEELINGS • Be tolerant and appreciative of individual differences. • Judge people on their who they are, not on their race, religion, nationality, gender, physical or mental condition, or how much money.
3. RESPONSIBILITY – BE RELIABLE AND DEPENDABLE. • Set a good example in what you say and do. Act as if someone whose respect you want is always watching. • Don't take credit for other people's work or accomplishments. • Finish your work before you play.
4. FAIRNESS – BE OPEN MINDED AND REASONABLE. NEVER TAKE ADVANTAGE OF OTHERS. • Listen to others. Try to understand what they are feeling and saying or trying to say. • Don't take more than your fair share.
5. CARING – TREAT PEOPLE WITH KINDNESS AND GENEROSITY. NEVER BE DELIBERATLEY MEAN OR HURTFUL. • Don't be selfish. • Do good things for people without thought of reward.
Music, enthusiastic (but thoughtful) discussion and participation is key in this unique, “super-fun” k-5 program.
