Program Description
Laser Reader is an interactive show that improves reading comprehension by fostering imagination and logic. We dazzle kids with advanced technology and promote critical thinking by using lasers, music, and word games. The kids absorb lessons that make reading at home or school more fun.

Our secret is to instill an active reading approach, regardless of individual reading levels. Interactive games illustrate how readers embark on an adventure every time they open a book. By practicing critical reading skills, students learn how to bring stories to life, using the power of their imaginations.

We help students think of reading as an active pursuit, where they ask themselves questions regarding plot points, character motivations, and how the story might unfold. Comprehension relies on the ability to mentally visualize what the author is telling us. We inspire children to forge their own visual adventures as they read, using their imaginations to form unique mental visualizations with the turn of every page.

Our acronym reminds students to always be an AVID reader: Ask, Visualize, Interpret, and Decide. Our lasers illuminate how these tools transform the words we read into a vivid scene in our mind’s eye, while we use deductive and inductive reasoning to unlock the author’s intent.

Laser Reader features audience participation with two versions tailored for different reading levels of younger and older audiences. The younger kids will love meeting our mascot Figgy and diving into his wonderful mixed up word puzzles. We challenge older students with inventive word workouts they always enjoy. Laser Reader is a delight at any age!

Laser Reader is a terrific stand-alone assembly, and it works well with other reading initiatives such as book fairs, Dr. Seuss events, Pick a Reading Partner (PARP) events, Reading Is Fundamental (RIF) events and Read Across America Week.
