Program Description
SUMMARY:
Mad Machines will give the students a chance to discover that simple machines can make our lives much easier. The students will get the opportunity to try out different types of simple machines: levers incline planes, wheels and axles, and pulleys, through various hands-on activities. Volunteers will get to build a giant lever and see how it works. Pulley systems will show how pulleys allow us to lift objects with less effort. Finally, the students will apply their new found mechanical knowledge by building their very own machine to take home!

NOTE: The additional material fee of $1.60 dollar per student is already included in the price.

EDUCATIONAL VALUE:
Mad Machines is an excellent introduction to basic physical science. Students are introduced to mechanics and the role that they play in our everyday lives. Children learn that simple machines allow us to push and pull less strenuously, but over a longer distance.

NOTE: Mad Science Programs are fun explorations into science and technology, and they encourage informal learning through hands-on experience. All Mad Science workshops include a lot of fascinating equipment, supplies, and take-home materials which the children build themselves. The Mad Science mission is to spark the imagination and curiosity of children everywhere by providing them with fun, entertaining, and educational activities which instill a clear understanding of what science really is, and how it affects the world around them.
