SUMMARY: In this class, students will be introduced to the world of light, colors, and important related scientific concepts. Students are treated to interactive demonstrations and exciting hands-on activity, accompanied by entertaining, educational and interactive discussions.
A BRIEF SYNOPSIS: Using Newton’s color wheel, students will observe and create white light, providing the background for an exploration of color, accomplished through several different demonstrations. A chromatography demonstration introduces the students to the visible spectrum. A series of exciting demonstrations and activities will cover both the infrared and the ultraviolet components of the spectrum, always an enthralling portion of the class.
EDUCATIONAL VALUE: This class will bring high-school-level physics to children, teaching them about the electromagnetic spectrum, visible versus invisible light, spectroscopy, and chromatography… only they will be having too much fun to realize that they have just learned about some pretty advanced topics!
NOTE: Mad Science Programs are fun explorations into science and technology, and they encourage informal learning through hands-on experience. All Mad Science workshops include a lot of fascinating equipment, supplies, and take-home materials which the children build themselves. The Mad Science mission is to spark the imagination and curiosity of children everywhere by providing them with fun, entertaining, and educational activities which instill a clear understanding of what science really is, and how it affects the world around them.
