Program Description
SUMMARY:
This class cultivates the art of writing with Chinese calligraphy. We will learn the importance of movement and flow with a calligraphy-style brush technique, and turn ideas into images. We’ll preserve Chinese characters on a rattle drum, called a Bo Lang Gu, to play at home!

EDUCATIONAL VALUE:
This class introduces children to the culture of China, and the history of Chinese calligraphy. They learn about the characters used to write some common words, and they practice painting them with brushstrokes. They also learn how to paint images using this same technique. Then, they add their characters and images to a traditional Chinese instrument and toy that they build themselves. This program teaches children new art techniques, and engages them in hands-on creativity as they design and create their own rattle drums.
