Program Description
SUMMARY:
Let’s take a closer look at textiles and their designs − the symbols, patterns and borders on a cloth can be used to tell stories. We’ll use stencils of creatures that are meaningful to the people of Korhogo to paint a wall-hanging using earthen colors.

EDUCATIONAL VALUE:
This class introduces children to the culture of the Senufo people in Côte d’Ivoire. They learn how to paint symbolic plant and animal designs on cloth using stencils. They use creativity and inspiration from real Korhogo cloth paintings to brainstorm, sketch, plan, and paint their own personal versions of these designs. This program engages children in hands-on creativity as they imagine and create their mud art paintings.
