Program Description
Crayola Imagine Arts Academy presents "art with a purpose".

SUMMARY:
Let’s step into the shoes of Mexican artist Frida Kahlo! She created over 100 self-portraits that expressed her reality, her struggles, and her ideals. In this class, kids will create their own mirrored self-portraits in the style of Magic Realism to express their inner selves.

EDUCATIONAL VALUE:
This class introduces children to the art of Frida Kahlo, a ground-breaking artist who was not afraid to express herself as an individual, a woman and an artist. Children learn about her Magic Realism style that blended reality with symbols and metaphor. Inspired by her self-expression through self-portraits, they will learn how to draw a face. Then, they will mix and blend colors to paint their own self-portraits on a mirrored background, inviting the viewer into the painting with them.
