Program Description
Students in grades K-12 use original works of art as a focus for observations, discussions and small group activities to strengthen visual and verbal literacy skills. Works of art are examined from stylistic, aesthetic, cultural and historical perspectives. By creating a welcoming environment to discover, share and reflect, the program aligns with the principles of NY State’s Culturally Responsive-Sustaining Education Framework. We strive to celebrate all voices and opinions, creating an environment of diversity and tolerance. Our exhibitions reflect a diversity of artists, styles, time periods, and geography and our programs encourage students to see their own life experiences as valued and integral to meaning making. The program develops visual literacy, communication skills, critical thinking, and self-expression. The program is inquiry-based, student-centered and we invite students of all learning styles and abilities including ENL students.
