Program Description
Our full day of interactive, hands-on, collaborative activities complement and enhance student understanding of the Native Americans of New York. While this engaging program allows students to delve firsthand into Native American cultures, it immerses students in Social Studies Practices from the NYS SS Framework, addressing grades 4 and 7 standards, yet is applicable to any grade interested in learning about Native Americans and their rich traditions. Students participate in a guided, interactive museum presentation, exploring the arts and artifacts of the Eastern Woodlands Indians. Students get up close and personal with Native American tools, weapons, clothing and more. Other activities that can be selected during a full day of learning and fun include: storytelling, craft projects, traditional songs and dances, games and a memorable workshop on Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) government. Aligns with NYS Arts Anchor Standard 11 and specifically connects with Visual Arts Enduring Understanding and Essential Questions 2.3, 6.1, and 11.1.
