Program Description
This interactive workshop designed for students and/or parents will help students understand the power of social media and the importance of being safe and kind online. Through an engaging activity, several topics will be discussed including the importance of protecting personal information, the danger of engaging with strangers, the need to report unkind and hurtful behavior and the ways social media can be used in positive ways. Material is adjusted based on age group (elementary, middle, high school).

For parents, this workshop will provide needed insight on how younger children are using social media and what parents can do to keep their children safe. Parents can use this workshop as the entry point for discussion. It is incumbent upon educators and parents to ensure that our children fully understand both the benefits and disadvantages of social media. The earlier our children have this conversation, the more likely it is they will engage with social media in appropriate and helpful ways.
