Teachers can borrow Discovery Chests for use in the classroom. Discovery Chests contain objects related to the everyday life of people in diverse cultures: clothing, musical instruments, food utensils, and religious symbols.
Discovery Chests items are meant to be handled, examined, tried on, and wondered about. The Discovery Chests are intended to spark students’ interest to learn more about the culture. Accompanying artifact description cards also available as google slides, place objects in a cultural context and suggest classroom activities and discussion points.
When presented in a cultural context and compared to a student’s own culture, the Discovery Chests can foster a greater understanding of the rich diversity in the world.
Each chest contains 20-30 cultural artifacts such as household goods, artworks, cultural texts and books, music, clothing and traditional items.
Cultures Available: Africa, Ancient Egypt, China, India, Greece, Latin America, Middle East, Native American, Japanese Tea Ceremony and Russia.
$50 Loan fee per chest
